  Ipoh Street Art     I've recently returned from my second home in Ipoh, Malaysia, a city blessed with plenty of street murals.      Mural Arts Lane is the back alley to Jalan Masjid .....        Eric Lau, a local art teacher, launched Mural Arts Lane in 2014. Among his popular murals are the Children Games Series.       Most of these works  have been there for years, free of vandalism, despite being easily accessible.   Animal Statues in London 1          Denmark Hill                                                                    Sutton         T he Fox is in the front garden of the Fox on the Hill,  a very nice Wetherspoons with great views - you can see the London Eye in the distance.      The name of the pub dates back to the 1700s when   The Fox  was situated further down Denmark Hill. Later it was renamed   The Fox Under Hill  and the starting point for many hunting meets with foxhounds. It was flattened by the Luftwaffe in 1941 and later rebuilt at this new location as the present  Fox on the Hill.  It stands next to Ruskin Park on Denmark Hill, named after Prince George of Denmark, who hunted there. Animal Statues in London 2 Poplar      This grade II listed sculpture is all that is left of the White Horse tavern which stood, from 1690, at the western end of Poplar High Street. It was demolished in 2003 and replaced by a block of flats.      From 1745, respected businessman James How and his wife were landlords of the White Horse. But in 1766, on her deathbed, Mrs How confessed to a friend that her husband was actually a woman. James How was subsequently blackmailed and eventually decided to take the extortionists to court. For three decades How had been accepted as a man by the people of Poplar; so there was quite a scene when he  turned up on the opening day of the trial in a dress and revealed his real identity was Mary East. Mary won the case but was obliged to give up the pub and resign from the civic positions she held as a man. However, she was allowed to keep her business fortune and  lived the rest of her life comfortably as a woman....
