      A few weeks ago I donated my London Underground jigsaw puzzle to the charity shop and bought an updated one with the Elizabeth Line added. Since then, Transport for London have announced they will change the colours and names of some of the lines; ho hum.
     I'm hoping come November my US Presidents puzzle will not be out of date. So that's another reason for our American cousins to 'Vote Blue'. 
      ..... like the CIA I'm have trouble finding all the pieces of JFK's head. (What? Too soon?)

     I went there for three reasons:
1. It is close to my final London Wetherspoons - The Moon and Stars in Penge.
2. There was a Beer Festival
3. It's great.

     Freedom Pass Wetherspoons Part 9 is done, and completes my quest to visit every Wetherspoons in Greater London reachable with a Freedom Pass. When I have the time I may do a summary of the whole experience. It was certainly worthwhile, giving me a chance to explore areas of London I previously had little knowledge - plus plenty of opportunities to meet up with old friends for a beer or two.

    On June 20, my good friend Ken Goddard invited me as his guest for the Society of Authors' Awards* Party at Southwark Cathedral on June 20. Thanks to the copious amounts of wine available, we chatted to lots of nice people, mostly ladies of a certain age writing historical novels. I'm not sure how impressed they were by my Wetherspoons blog as they were all too polite to sound disinterested.

   On the same day, I visited The Art of Banksy, also on Charing Cross Road.

          ..... and still had time for a beer in The Montagu Pyke, also on Charing Cross Road.

FREEDOM PASS WETHERSPOONS PART 1       A Freedom Pass allows free travel for seniors  across the whole TFL (Transport For London) network from 9am weekdays and all day on Saturday and Sundays.        When I thought of doing this, I didn't realise there were around a hundred J D Wetherspoons pubs in Greater London. But, over the years, I've already been to more than thirty of them, so we'll see how it goes - and there's no time restriction.       Almost all the 'Spoons' pubs serve reasonably-priced food and drinks from 8am until midnight.        I've only commented at length on those that are particularly pleasant, historically relevant, or are near to places of interest.       The name of the business originates from JD, a character in The Dukes of Hazzard and Wetherspoon, the surname of founder Tim Martin's teacher in New Zealand, who told him he would never amount to much. FREEDOM PASS WETHERSPOONS PART 9

FREEDOM PASS WETHERSPOONS PART 9     I'm all finished. It took less time than I expected, although sweeping up the last few has been slow as I try to tie in local events. Also, I had to wait for fine weather for those I'd paired with  outdoor attractions. Now I know how General Eisenhower felt in 1944 as he waited for the skies to clear. It finally stopped raining in London on June 6,  exactly 80 years after D-Day,  and I was able to mobilise .... not towards Normandy, but The Tailor's Chalk in  Sid cup.     So I was able to complete my quest on June 16 - at the Crystal Palace Beer Festival, handily a couple of hours before England's Euro 2024 opener, an edgy 1-0 win over Serbia.     In part 10 I'll deliberate on what quest  to invent next to amuse myself (suggestions welcome) when I'm not watching the  football, T20 cricket and Olympics.     FREEDOM PASS WETHERSPOONS PART 3      Spotted on Tripadvisor, the perfect Wetherspoons review .....  "Full of old people. No music". The George - Wanstead (part 3)         The metal dragon reminds us that the pub that stood here until 1903 was named  The George and Dragon.         How many can you identify from the "Gallery of Georges"?             .... the 'old people' might do better here. Answers below.  The Metropolitan Bar - Marylebone        Wow!  The Metropolitan Bar,  next door to Baker Street Station, is a gem I was completely unaware of. It's huge, elegant, and  cheap for central London.      On January 10, 1863 the world's first underground train passed under here. It had gas-lit wooden carriages and was pulled by a steam locomotive. This was the new Metropolitan Line and ran between Paddington and Farringdon . So...
