LONDON MURAL FESTIVAL PART 1

London Mural Festival

A mural is defined as a large artwork on a wall or ceiling. But the 2024 festival opened with something better described as a mosaic .....

Angry Dan spent around six months creating this illustrated map of London, around the same time it took me (with a similar sense of dedication) to visit all of London's Wetherspoons. That's Dan lying in the centre of his masterpiece. It's about as angry as he gets.
The map, featuring over 850 landmarks, was laid out in the Olympic Park on September 8th.
The public were invited to walk on it and take away their favourite piece at the end of the day.
You can order this poster on Dan's website ....

Angry Dan lives in Walthamstow, just round the corner from me. I've driven past this mural (and not stopped) many times but until now didn't know who painted it ....
..... Dan's limericks feature in many of his works. This pays homage to former local boy William Morris.

Stockwell:
                         DRT                                                              Darry Perier
A Lasting Place - Sebas Velasco                                     Liam Bononi
A Lasting Place is named after a song by rapper Loyle Carner. Velasco is Spanish and this is his first London mural. Bononi is Brazilian, based in the UK.

The Leadenhall Building Trumpets:
Nick Tez                                       Itaewon                             Anna Ovni
The 'trumpets' are air vents. They have been redecorated having also featured in the previous (2020) London Mural Festival. Itaewon is a British artist brought up in South Korea. Itaewon is a popular neighbourhood in Seoul.

Montgomery Street, Canary Wharf
This dockside triptych is by (left to right) Zoe Power, Jo Hicks and Vanessa Scott.

Elephant and Castle
A collection of modest floral murals by Ceeillustrate brings some colour to the small oasis known as Elephant Park. Her decorations represent flowers of Latin America.

The Mural Festival continues throughout September when around 100 works will appear around London. Click here for a map of the locations. Or wait for me to add them to this page. Some are near Wetherspoons.
