Penge Murals
April, 2025: Penge (or anywhere 'sarf of the river') would seem an unlikely place for a day trip in springtime. But it's only 30 minutes from Whitechapel on the Windrush Line (formerly Overground) and has some wonderful street art (and a Wetherspoons). Notable Penge people include bassist Bill Wyman and plumber Thomas Crapper.
See https://streetartcities.com for locations.
Historian by Abraham.O

The history of Moors and Christians or Historians is a traditional dance from El Salvador and also from other areas of Latin America. This dance was incorporated by the Iberian conquerors in the colonization stage of the American continent. In it they represented religious and war aspects.

Zabou
Modern Day Addiction (2020) is in Thesiger Road Penge, SE20 7NW. I didn't stay to find out but, after dark, a security light casts a glow from the phone onto the face of the subject.
Zabou
Also in Penge, Zabou painted this tribute to Gordon Gibbens (2020) a local photographer who captured London's street art until his death in 2017.
Gordon's story has been told by his daughter Jane Murphy in a book entitled How Graffiti Saved My Dad's Life (At Least For A While) with the proceeds going to St Christopher's Hospice.
The mural, part of the 2020 Penge Street Art Project, can be found in Bycroft Street, SE20 7JZ.
Irony
My Dog Sighs Top Cat by Fat Cap Sprays
Unfolding by Jimmy C

In a diversion from his usual pointillist style, Jimmy C first painted the background before adding the birds, with a transparent quality, to retain the background detail. The idea behind this mural was to refenence passageways and portals.
While the World Decays by SNIK

I can't imagine how, but apparently SNIK used very intricate stencils to produce this work. Note also how they used the exposed brickwork on the edges.

Chinagirl Tile
If you look under the lower window in Arista's mural you can see this tiny ceramic fox by Chinagirl Tile. Her works often deal with social and political issues. Since 2010 she has installed over 180 of her tile artworks around the world, not just in cities but also remote areas.
Falko1
This is one of several signature elephants around Penge by Falko1, who hails from Cape Town.
Surburban Nights and Tokyo Dreaming by Dan Kitchener
These two pieces by Dan Kitchener stand side-by-side in Evelina Road. 'DANK' is a renowned British street artist who also spends a lot of time in Tokyo.
Queens Crossing the North Sea by Vegan Flava
This mural of a short-haired bumblebee was inspired by a ten-year project, starting in 2009, to bring several hundred queen bees from Sweden to the UK. Sadly the project failed to produce any meaningful results. This is Vegan Flava's attempt to highlight how scientists are trying, often unsuccessfully, to reverse the damage humanity has done to species and ecosystems.

Finally, I couldn't resist adding these two works by Abraham.O and Aspire in nearby Crystal Palace .....
It's also worth visiting Penge's free Rooftop Gallery on the multi-storey car park of Blenheim Shopping Centre. Unfortunately, it was closed on the day I was there.
