LONDON MURAL FESTIVAL PART 6

London Mural Festival part 6     Surrey Quays:  Tea Jurisic David Maker      These two are at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre which is earmarked for demolition. This is unlikely to happen before 2028 but the mall is already looking quite lifeless. eL Seed     Spring Always Comes Back can be found at Pelican House, SE8 3AP.     After tracking these three down I rounded off the day with a Wetherspoons steak in the Surrey Docks followed by Peter Kay at the O2 Arena .     Stratford: Graff Jam??     I guessed this was the listed contribution of Graff Jam as it was the only thing that was new at the given map coordinates. It marked the beginning  of work on a new community playground and outdoor gym to be called Carpenter's Park.     Then, a few weeks later, this appeared next to the playground ..... Cept       The comic-book style of Cept (Mike Ballard) has been a familiar fe...

London Mural Festival part 5     Webheath Estate, Brondesbury:  Zabou      Zabou never fails to impress. Sisterhood features half-sisters Key and Mimi. Click here  for more of Zabou's London murals.                                       Smug      This mural of  June Rose Barber was part of the 2020 London Mural Festival. June, a Webheath Estate resident, died in 2023. She was 88 and had lived on the estate for over 50 years. Friends and neighbours organised a memorial service in front of June's mural - how nice.       Apart from these two huge portraits, Webheath Estate boasts a fine array of other street murals by renowned artists .....           I took the scenic route home starting with the top deck of the 189 bus from Brondesbury to Selfridges via Abbey Road, Because it was Something ...

LONDON MURAL FESTIVAL PART 4

London Mural Festival part 4       Walthamstow: Rosie Woods  ..... Wow! Rimon Guimaraes Kleiner Shames       The three murals above are all part of this year's festival and all in Pretoria Avenue  - where you can also see these two gems ....       The pelicans are a genuine Banksy which appeared recently  and has since (optimistically) been protected with Perspex.       Kestrel and Magnolia Flowers is by Faunagraphic (Sarah Yates). She painted it for the previous London Mural Festival (2020) so it's good to see it hasn't faded or been defaced.  Tima       Mural street artists often use brickwork as a grid when mapping out their creations. But, having been pebble dashed, this wall really was a blank canvas. Tima, who is Moroccan, has left the building. Her hoist is still to be collected.       "Her works frequently depict women with closed, introspective express...

LONDON MURAL FESTIVAL PART 3

London Mural Festival part 3        The London Mural Festival officially came to a close on September 29 with a two-hour guided walk around the new murals of Camden. I signed up for it to save hunting for them myself and for the fascinating insight and background provided by our guide Dave. Camden:  Mr Doodle              I imagine Mr Doodle also designs his own clothes ....             Mr Doodle (Sam Cox) has created 58 doodle artworks across Regents Park Footbridge, Chalk Farm. Nearby London Zoo is well represented with a variety of animal pictures. It took a whole week for him to complete. If you think this is OTT, check out Mr Doodle's house . His wife was not available for comment.        In 2020, Mr Doodle was the world's fifth most successful artist under 40 with $4.7 million in auction sales. He also had a breakdown but has since recovered. Mister Tris   ...
